On Saturday night 1/21, Melissa Manchester proved all the Paramount's bad reviews untrue as she brought her story telling genius to a very appreciative crowd of New Yorkers. The evening got off to a great start with the opening act Deep Dark Woods, and it was evident from the first notes that any issues with the sound system had been remedied. The venue is beautiful and definitely needs to keep bringing shows like this to the Island. Manchester, a wonderful, funny story teller, loves working with the crowd and appreciates the musical talents of the band members who surround her. Touching on most of her albums spanning a career that many local listeners may not recognize, my friend left a Melissa Manchester fan for life after hearing her for the first time. She hooks her audience and carries them through the evening with good down home Texas "country/rock and roll." This was simply a great musical evening in a great "new" venue. Now.......... $6 for a can of Bud is a little over the top, don't you think?
